Programme Overview

The Comet Scholars Program targets students who have a record of academic excellence in high school or community college and show significant financial need.

This scholarship can be used to cover education-related expenses including tuition, fees and housing. Students receive more than just a financial award through this program. Comet Scholars also receive academic support from program staff who assist them in successfully transitioning to UT Dallas. UT Dallas does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, national origin, disability, genetic information, or veteran status in its programs and activities. This policy applies to all terms and conditions of employment, admission and enrollment. 

Benefits

Each student will receive $5,000 per year for a maximum of eight semesters of undergraduate study. Students receive more than just a financial award through this program.

Requirements

The student must:

  • Be admitted to the University,
  • Be an undergraduate student enrolling for the first time at UT Dallas as a full-time student in the fall semester of the application year,
  • Have a record of academic merit in high school or community college,
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale if transferring from community college,
  • Have financial need as determined by a completed financial aid application (FAFSA or TASFA),
  • Submit a one-page resume or one-page list describing their leadership roles, community service and extracurricular services,
  • Submit an essay on the topics indicated on the application, and
  • Submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher, professor or counselor.

Students who are selected for the scholarship are required to:

  • Attend a Freshman or Transfer Student Orientation session,
  • Participate in regular Comet Scholars Program academic check-in meetings after enrolling in the University,
  • Volunteer at least five engagement hours each semester.
