Programme Overview

The Kinship Conservation Fellowship supports global conservation practitioners by providing a month-long, in-residence program focused on market-based solutions in conservation. Fellows enhance their leadership skills, gain new insights, and learn analytical tools to advance their projects. The fellowship fosters peer learning through interactive discussions and systems-thinking exercises, equipping participants with innovative solutions to tackle complex challenges in their conservation work.

Benefits

The benefits include:

  • Fellows receive a stipend of US$8,000, net of customary U.S. tax withholding.
  • Fellows are responsible for paying applicable local, state, and federal taxes on the stipend.
  • Non-U.S. citizens will have payments subject to a 30% U.S. tax withholding, resulting in a net payment of approximately $5,600 (subject to change based on U.S. tax laws).

Requirements

The eligibility criteria include: 

  • Must have at least five years of on-the-ground experience in conservation.
  • Involved in implementing market-based approaches to address environmental problems.
  • Ready to engage with a global community of conservation leaders.
  • Required to submit a project proposal outlining an environmental issue related to their work and their plans to develop a market-based solution.
  • Must be familiar with business and economic principles and work in a setting where these can be integrated with conservation efforts.
  • Applicants should possess a minimum of a four-year U.S. college degree (or its equivalent).
  • Must have a minimum of five years of relevant work experience after completing their degree.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English is required.
  • Must be a conservation practitioner, not an academic or researcher.
  • Each year, 18 applicants are selected for the fellowship program.

Interview Dates and Process

Applicants who meet the above requirements will be evaluated in the following areas:

  • Proposed project viability and appropriateness
  • Leadership potential
  • Potential contribution to the Fellowship program and ongoing membership in the Fellows Community
