Programme Overview
NIU Partnership Awards are given as part of NIU’s matching commitment to the state of Illinois’ AIM HIGH program for incoming students. Students who file a FAFSA by February 1, 2025, and meet the AIM HIGH criteria and the special population criteria will be considered for an award.
Benefits
Beginning with the fall 2024 entry term, these two awards will increase from a one-time, $3,000 award to an annual, $1,000 award renewable for four years. For students who maintain at least an NIU cumulative 2.5 GPA and meet the other required criteria, these partnership awards are renewable until you complete your degree or reach 135 total earned hours.
Requirements
- Be an Illinois resident who attended an Illinois high school.
- Be a first-time incoming freshman or transfer student.
- Be seeking your first undergraduate four-year degree.
- Complete the NIU admission application including submission of all required documents by February 1, 2025.
- Be a citizen or eligible non-citizen (be eligible for federal and/or state student aid).
- File a FAFSA or Alternative Application for Illinois Financial Aid by the February 1, 2025 priority deadline. NIU will use the submission date of your initial financial aid application regardless of the inclusion of our school code. However, we cannot calculate your eligibility until NIU has been added to your financial aid application.
- Not have received a bachelor’s degree or earned the equivalent of 135 semester credit hours.
- Not be incarcerated.
- Not be in default on any student loan.
- Not owe a refund or repayment on any state or federal grant or scholarship.
- Have a household income at or below eight times the poverty level. This information will be collected on the FAFSA. 2023 income will be used to determine 2025-2026 eligibility based on the chart below. The household income at the time of initial application will be the income used throughout the duration of the program (even if the income changes in subsequent FAFSAs submitted by the applicant).
