Programme Overview

The Virginia-Carolina’s Scholarships Foundation Trust has established a leadership based scholarship program to assist students who live in Virginia, North Carolina, or South Carolina and plan to enroll as a full-time undergraduate student in the Virginia Tech College of Engineering for the entire upcoming academic year.

The program is administered by Scholarship America, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Benefits

Up to one (1)* full-ride awards** will be granted.

*The award amounts and number of awards will be based on the annual funds available.
**Awards are intended to cover the entire Cost of Attendance (COA): tuition, fees, books, supplies, room, and board. Award amounts will be determined based on the cost of attendance as determined by each recipient’s financial aid award letter.

Requirements

Applicants to the The Harmon E. Broyles Scholarship Program must:

  • Live in Virginia, North Carolina, or South Carolina
  • Be high school seniors or graduates or current college undergraduates
  • Plan to enroll in fulltime undergraduate study at Virginia Tech for the entire upcoming academic year
  • Be pursuing a degree offered by the Virginia Tech College of Engineering
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent)
  • Hold a leadership role in a recognized/identifiable group or team.

Trustees, selection committee members and their immediate family members are ineligible to apply.

Interview Dates and Process

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Academic record
  • Work Experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation
  • Three essays

Application Documents

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
    • Student name
    • School name
    • Grades
    • Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
  • Copy of the first two pages of the most recently filed IRS Form 1040 used for the Financial Information section of the application. Please black out all social security numbers and bank account information.
