Programme Overview
The Hanna H. Gray Fellows Program supports early career scientists in the biological and biomedical sciences with the potential to become leaders in academic research. This transformative award funds postdoctoral training and early career years as independent faculty, encouraging foundational discoveries and fostering inclusive scientific culture. Fellows join a vibrant community and gain opportunities for professional development and collaboration
Benefits
The benefits include:
- Postdoctoral Phase: Annual salary of $80,000, plus a $20,000 annual expense allowance, for a minimum of two and up to four years.
- Faculty Phase: $250,000 in annual research funding and $20,000 annual expense allowance, for up to four years.

Requirements
Eligible applicants are to meet the following criteria:
- Open to basic science researchers or physician-scientists in biological and biomedical sciences supported by HHMI.
- Must have been accepted as a postdoctoral researcher in a laboratory led by a tenured or tenure-track faculty member at an eligible U.S. institution, including Puerto Rico, by the application deadline.
- Applicants must commit 75% of their effort to research during the postdoctoral training phase.
- Must agree to a minimum of two years of postdoctoral training after the grant start date.
- Must hold a PhD and/or MD (or equivalent) conferred by the grant term start date.
- U.S.-trained applicants can be of any nationality; non-U.S.-trained applicants must be U.S. citizens or nationals.
- No more than 24 months of postdoctoral research experience by the application due date.
- PhD conferral date must be between February 26, 2023, and January 15, 2026.
- MD or MD/PhD applicants must have no more than 24 months of postdoctoral training by the application deadline.

Applicants are also to submit the following documents:
- Educational and research training record summary.
- Description of PhD research and up to three selected research articles.
- Narrative statements about motivation, inclusivity goals, and career aspirations.
- Postdoctoral research plan.
- Questionnaires from PhD advisor and postdoctoral mentor.
- Curriculum vitae and lab census provided by the postdoctoral mentor.
